Day 29 May 4,2010
In my future classroom I will let my student use Wikipedia to conduct research. I will let them use it to find keywords, links, and references. On Wikipedia, it gives you a list keywords that bring up the most articles on your subject. It also gives you a list of links at the bottom of the screen that they can site for their paper. Also, there a list of books where the information came from where they can get more information and cite that as their reference. I think that Wikipedia is a good site, many people just don't trust it because it can be changed by anyone. But the authors go through and check to make sure that the work that is edited on there is credible, and if it is not then they delete the information. I will let my future classroom use Wikipedia to conduct research.

Day 28 April 29,2010
The website that I chose to validate was Martin Luther Kind Jr. I found out that this site was hosted by Stormfront, which is a "white pride" site. This shows that this site is not credible because it is created by Stormfront. In the summary of the website, there is a curse word. This shows that it is not reliable information for children to use. Overall, this site is not a good website to get information from. Learning how to validate a website is a good skill and it will be useful to me when I am looking up research for a paper.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Day 27 April 27, 2010
Something new that I learned today about searching for information on the interent is how to tell if the site is creditable or not. I learned that sites that end in .edu is one of the most creditable sites. The information is more accurate and more reliable. The ISTE-NETS standard that fits this activity is Standard 3d. Standard 3d says Teachers model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning. This is a good way to figure out which information to use for a research paper or any project. This will come in handy when I start teaching and assign a paper to my class. I think that they will enjoy learning how to validate sites.

Day 26 April 22,2010
One new thing I learned about the smartboard from my peers was that you can write on it and change the line sizes. Also, I learned that you can use the notebook part of the smartboard, which is good for showing presentations and writing on it. I also found out that it is useful for Math problems. You can write the math problem on the board and work it out. I think that the smartboard is very interesting, and the children in the classrooms would definitely enjoy them. I think smartboards would be good in the classroom, if they were used for the right thing. I would use a smartboard in my future classroom if I knew how to use them to their fullest potential.
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Day 25 April 20,2010
Are smartboards worth the financial investment? Our group had a hard time on deciding on if smarboards were worth the financial investment or if they weren't worth the investment. I think that smarboards would be worth the financial investment if educators were trained in how to use the samrt boards properly. Also, if teachers could find the right lessons to use with teh smartboard, then they would be useful to teachers and students. If the smartboards are not being used and are just sitting in the classroom, then they are a waste of money. I think that teachers who know how to use the smartboards, and find them useful should be able to get them, but teachers who do not use them, then they should not waster their money on buying them.
Thursday, April 15, 2010
Day 24 April 15, 2010
Today in class we worked with the smart board agian. We worked in groups and found lesson plans that would be good to teach in a history class. Using smart boards in the classroom helps teachers to meet Standard 2a. Teachers design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incoporate digitial tools and resources to promote student learning and creavity. Smart boards would be a wonderful thing for me to use as a future educator if I could find the right lessons to use it with. If I could find the right activities to use for hte lesson I am teaching, then the smart board would be great to use. I think a lot of teachers would use it if they knew what lessons to use with it. The children would also enjoy it becuase it gives them the opportunity to take turns and work together.

Day 23 April 13,2010
Today in class we are learning how to use smart boards. White boards are used frequently in schools today. I remember using smart boards in my 8th grade and 12th grade year. In elementary school, we did not use the smart board. Now it is used more often in the elementary schools. In the reading called, "Interactive Whiteboards and Learning: A Review of Classroom Case Studies and Research Literature" shows white boards are worth the investment by this quote, ""One shared image in the classroom encourages discussion….The pace of the lesson is increased…. It encourages teachers to plan lessons which involve interactive whole-class activities. The teacher can look at the class, rather than at the computer keyboard (which would be the case if a computer and large monitor or image projected onto a wall were used)…. The teacher can concentrate on pupils' responses" (Ball 2003). This quote shows evidence of why smart boards would be worth the investment. It encourages students to interact with each other, and to be more willing to speak out in the classroom. The teacher isn't sitting behind a computer, but can stand in front of the classroom and interact with his/her students. I think that the smart board would be a good investment in the schools.

Day 22 April 8,2010
Today in class we worked on our WebQuest pages. Here is the link to my WebQuest. I am finding new videos to use on my webquest and pictures to go along with my theme of farm animals. I think that children would really enjoy completing this webquest. As the students are completing the webquest they are developing 21st century skills in core subjects. WebQuests in general are involving students in learning about different subjects and different topics. My WebQuest focuses on English, reading, or language arts. This WebQuest also helps students to become familar with using computers. Which for kindergarten and first grade is useful for them to learn how to use computers at an early age.
Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Day 21 April 6,2010
Today in class we worked on our WebQuests with Google sites. We went through and made changes to our WebQuests and modified it. The ISTE-NETS Standard that creating this webquest fit is standard 2d. Standard 2d says, teachers provide students with multiple and varied formative and summat assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching. I think webquests will be a good activity to use in my future classrooms. It uses technology and helps students to corporate.
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Day 20 April 1, 2010
The webquest that I found, that I am going to modify is called Farm Animals. One change that I am going to make to this webquest is to add pictures to it. This webquest is to help students on reading and comprehension, also to assess their ability with computers and begin to learn about reseach. There are no pictures on this webquest, and it looks boring and plain. I don't think kindergarteners would be interested in this assignement because there are no pictures. The CSO that my webquest will help students meet is use meaning clues to aid comprehension and make predictions about content (e.g., pictures, title, cover, story sequence).
Monday, March 29, 2010
Day 19 March 30, 2010
Today in class we got into groups of four and each played a role to look at different webquests. The role I played was "The Efficiency Expert". The efficiency expert:: You value time a great deal. You believe that too much time is wasted in today's classrooms on unfocused activity and learners not knowing what they should be doing at a given moment. To you, a good WebQuest is one that delivers the most learning bang for the buck. If it's a short, unambitious activity that teaches a small thing well, then you like it. If it's a longterm activity, it had better deliver a deep understanding of the topic it covers, in your view. The webquest I found that fit my role was "We All Scream for Ice Cream." This webquest had students reaseaching and creating a flow chart of "How ice cream is made". Then, they create a new flavor of ice cream and design the package for the new ice cream flavor. Finally, they will make their own homemade ice cream. I think this webquest fit my role best becuase it was a short activity that didn't take a lot of time, and it teaches a small thing. The ISTE NETSs standard that helps K-12 students meet is Standard 2a: Communication and Collaboration. Standard 2a says that students interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts,or others employing a variety of digital environments and media. This would be a good project for my future classroom beucase it helps the students to interact and to be creative with their own ideas.
Thursday, March 25, 2010
Day 18 March 25, 2010
Today in class we watched digital photostories that were created by the Fairview Middle School students. I think that creating a digital story helps students to meet Standard 1b : Creativity and Innovation. Creating a digital story fits under this category because it helps them to create original works as a means of personal or group expression. This is a great activity to create in the classroom because it helps students to use their imagination to create a story of their own. Students can collaborate with their peers and other students to get feedback on their stories. I think that the students would have fun creating a digital story.
Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Day 17 March 23, 2010
Today in class we joined Bruceton Five Ning site. We created a mini blog on our profile on ning also. Making a mini biography in a social network site helps students to use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information. This is a good site to communicate with classmates and other members of the site. I think that this will be useful in my future teaching becuase it will get the studnets more involved and closer to each other. The students will learn more about each other and be more creative. By creating a mini biography, it helps your classmates to know you better.
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
Day 16 March 11, 2010

Today in class we are working on a magazine cover. We have to make a magazine cover about getting "Educator of the Month". We have to put our teaching philosophy and all of the activities that we would do in our class. I think that this activity fits media literacy because we understand and utilize the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics and conventions. I think that this activity was really fun and interesting. This would be a good project for when I become a teacher to have them create a magazine cover about a topic we are learning in class. If we were going over the 50 states, they could each pick a state and describe the state and activities to do in the state on a magazine cover. This will be a great activity that my students will enjoy and be interested in.
Day 15 March 9, 2010
The deconstructing of Arnold helps students to develop 21st century skills for media literacy by examining how individuals interpret messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence beliefs and behaviors. The two pictures of Arnold were very different, the one showed him very muscular and intimidating. The other showed him in a suit and he looked like a very nice and understanding guy. The colors the person used and the pictures of him showed different sides and interpretations of Arnold. Everyone had their own views and perceptions of the pictures. This shows that people think and interpret different pictures and messages differently. This would be a good activity in my future classroom to show students how everyone has their own opinion.
Thursday, March 4, 2010
Day 14 March 4, 2010
Today in class we made a wordle based on Web 2.0. We used the program Jing to capture the image of the wordle. This activity fits under Creativity and Innovation by creating new and worthwhile ideas. It also helps us to be open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives; incorpoate group input and feedback. This would be a good activity to get students engaged in learning a subject such as science or history. This would be good to explain the vocabulary words for each chapter in their book. I think that this is a very creative and fun project to use in my future teaching.
Monday, March 1, 2010
Day 13 March 2, 2010
Today in class we finished collaborative story writing with 5th graders. We used personal bookmarks on Blackboard to create bookmarks of the frequently used websites. I think that using Personal Bookmarks in Blackboard promot Information Literacy Skills by letting you to be more organized, and to get to the websites more quickly. Using Personal Bookmarks in Blackboard promot Media Literacy Skills by applying a fundamental understanding of the ehtical/legal issues sournding the access and use of media.
Thursday, February 25, 2010
Day 12 February 25,2010
Today in class we created a Hypermedia Quiz on Powerpoint. I think that this was a really fun activity. We came up with our own question, mine was "Which of these colors is a primary color?" I think that this activity fits under Initiative & Self-Direction. This fits under the topic working independently because we monitor, define, prioritize and complete tasks without direct oversight. I think that this activty would be good to use in my future classroom because it would help prepare students for a test or quiz. The students could prepare a hypermedia quiz on a topic such as science and then switch quizs to help each other study for the quiz. This would be great to get the children interactive with each other, and to get them excited about learning.
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Day 11 February 23,2010
Today in class we were involved in collaborative story writing with fifth graders. The fifth graders started writing a story, and we had to add on to it. This is a good activity because it helps to give them ideas of where to take their story to next. Each Indian has either 3 to 4 people who are commenting on their story, and giving them ideas. Then each fifth grader will pick which comment they liked best to add on to their story. I think that this activity fits into the Life and Career Skills under Flexibility and Adaptability by incorporating feedback effectively. I think that this would be a good project to be involved in when I become a teacher because it will get my students involved with sharing ideas to each other. Also, they could get ideas from other children from different schools. This would be a good way to get students more excited about writing and to get them more involved.

Thursday, February 18, 2010
Day 10 February 18,2010
Today we uploaded our photo story to youtube, and then posted it in our blog. Our rough draft of the photo story was due today. We are supposed to post comments on our classmates photo stories. I think that this activity meets standard 1d. By creating a photo story, we are modeling collaborative knowledge by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
Wednesday, February 17, 2010
Day 9 February 16,2010
Today in class we were asked to make a photo story titled "When I Become a Teacher." In this photo story, we had to use a quote about teachers and learning, use at least five pictures, and add music and text. The quote I used was " Teachers who inspire realize there will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how we use them." I thought that this was a very inspiring quote. The ISTE NETS standard that this activity best fits is 2b. Standard 2b says that teachers develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. I think that this would be a great project to use in my future classes. This would help students to be more creative and use their own originality to create a project of their own.
Thursday, February 11, 2010
Day 8 February 11,2010
One activity that I have done outside of my school life was a class on health choices. Over the summer I worked at Energy Express and part of our community service project was having a class on how to make healthy foods and snacks. By hosting this class, I used standard 5d. Standard 5d says that teachers contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community. By doing this community service project, we were helping the community and the school, by using a power point presentation to show which choices they could choose for a heathlier life and meal. I had a lot of fun with this project, and everyone seemed to enjoy the class.
Day 7 February 9,2010
One activity that I did in first grade that helped me to meet one of the ISTE NETS-T was playing math and English games on the computer. The standard that this activity meets is Standard 2A. By using standard 2a, the teacher designed relevant learning experiences that incorporated digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. I really enjoyed learning how to apply my math skills by using a game on the computer. I think that this would be a really good idea to use when I become a teacher. I think that the students would enjoy playing a game that tests their knowledge of math. Math is a hard subject for students and I think that if you were to make learning fun, then they oould enjoy it more.
Thursday, February 4, 2010
Day 6 February 4, 2010
Today we video conferenced with 5th graders from California. Each child asked a question and we answered them with the knowledge that we have or from research. The questions that we answered were all about Internet Safety. The questions I had was: Should you put a picture of yourself on your profile, and Should you put your phoe number on your profile. I think that video conferencing fits Standard 4c. By video conferencing with 5th graders, we promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social intereactions related to the use of technology and information. I think video conferencing will be a wonderful to use in my future classroom becuase it would give my students a chance to get opinions from other students or higher educators.
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Day 5 February 3,2010

Today we used Google Docs to make a form and to create graphs, by using the data from our forms. We came up with two questions and posted them to our blog using Google form. Then from the information we got we made a graph. I think this activity fits Standard 3 A,B,and C. By using Google Docs we are modeling digital-age work and learning. We are using technology to collobrate with students, peers, parents and community members. Also, we are communitcating relevant information to sutdents, peers, and parents by using different digital-age media. I would use this in my classroom to give tests, quizzes, and surveys for my students to fill out. Then they can work on group projects together and communication between them will be easier. Google Forms will be a great thing to use in my future classes, and I think that the students will enjoy using them to make graphs with the date they collects from their forms.

Thursday, January 28, 2010
Day 4 January 28
Today in class we joined Web 2.0 Schools on Face book. This is a website where anyone can join in and talk about topics related to technology in the schools, and many other topics. I think this assignment fits the ISTE NETs Standard 3C. By joining Web 2.0 Schools we are communicating relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using digital-media. I would use this as an educator by letting my students discuss topics we go over in school. This would also get their parents involved if they would like to join the conversations. They would know what their child was doing in class and what kind of topics we would be discussing.
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Day 3 January 26
Today in class we had to join a site called Classroom 2.0. This is a website for teachers who discuss what they are doing to integrate technology into their classroom. Also it is to help other teachers to get ideas from each other. I think this one fits under Standard 5A. Joining Classroom 2.0 fits Standard 5A because I am participating in a global learning community to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning. I will use classroom 2.0 when I become an educator to help me with ideas on how to integrate technology into my lesson plans, and on ideas to make my students more engaged in learning.
Day 2 January 21
Today we were assigned to make a resume on google docs. This was the first time I had ever used this program and I thought it was very neat t'hat you could choose your own template. This assignment will go under Standard 1b. This one is Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity" :engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. This helps students to create a resume for a job or to go to college. I would use this in my classroom as a way for my students to create their own resumes and then to discuss them on their blogs. They could give each other comments and ideas on how to make their resumes better.
Day 1 January 19
Today I made my own blog. This was very new to me, and I was very confused. By making this blog I met standard 3b. Standard 3 is Model Digital-Age Work and Learning B says "Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation." We also had a texting activity where we had to pick two nouns and two adjectives to describe California. This also fit under the category 3b. These two fit under Standard 3b because we were collarborateing with students using digital tools to support student success. I will use this when I become a teacher by having my students publish stories and to have discussions about each others work.
